“This was very much a once-in-a-lifetime build for us, and the roof was one of the most complicated and important parts of the whole project. We have large double-height vaulted spaces, and where the old house met the new extension there were a number of challenges. At one stage, the solution being suggested was a flat roof, which was something I really didn’t want.

Carmel took the time to listen to what we were trying to achieve and worked through the design with us rather than simply settling for the easiest option. It took a little time to get everything right, particularly around the junction of the old and new buildings, but Carmel was patient throughout and kept working with us until we found the right solution.

The end result is actually better than I had hoped for. The vaulted roof has become one of the defining features of the house, and looking at it now, I’m very glad we persisted with the design.
